Mid-tasting I did have to check I was looking at the correct wine, there being sublime purity and finesse in my glass. Palmer's exemplary second wine has a lovely line of fresh blueberry fruit and smooth silky tannins that end on a clean saline finish. There's even a touch of tobacco behind and the whole promises complexity and precision as it ages. The yields were low here so the concentration is good and there's plenty of Margaux charm. A great Alter Ego, and a sound buy if the price is right. 5-15 years.
